Applications of Mode



Mode Math Definition states that modal is the most frequently occurring number in a given data set.  Math Mode is the only way to statistically analyze the population bearing the information of random variables.  The modal is not unique.  There can be more than one modal in a given data set. Finding the Mode is not possible in case of uniform distributions where all the data values will be of the same frequency which means no modal.

Mode of Probability Distributions
Let us consider the case of two types of probability distributions namely discrete and continuous probability distributions.

In case of discrete probability distributions, the given data set is analyzed to find out the data value at which the probability mass function has the maximum value. That data value is the manner of the given discrete probability distribution. This data value has the maximum possibility to be sampled.

In case of continuous probability distributions, the given data set is analyzed to find the data value at which the probability density function has the maximum value. The modal is higher at this data value. So this is the modal of the given continuous probability distribution.

Example of Mode
Mode is a special measure of central tendency which has a wide range of applications.  Let us now discuss about the various applications and examples of modal:

Modal is useful to maintain stock in manufacturing companies.  Whether it is textiles, bakery products or some other objects, some are sold more often than the other objects. By finding out the most frequently sold object i.e., modal, they can be manufactured more than other sizes. For example, A T-shirt manufacturing company produces T-shirts of size small, medium, large, XL and XXL.  The large size might fit most of the people as small and medium is for youngsters and XL and XXL is for fat people. By finding out the manner, the manufacturers will come to know that large size T- shirts are frequently sold and they might introduce new designs and increase its productivity to increase their sales.

Modal can also measure how frequently an event occurs.  Statistics taken on road accidents in different signals are analyzed to find out the signals where accidents happen more frequently i.e. manner. Based on the modal of accidents computed, measures are taken to reduced accidents such as making it one - way, putting no free left board etc.
